Arne Johan VEMO Arne Johan Vemo, born on January 27, 1941 in Seattle, WA to Bjarne and Edel Vemo died unexpectedly at the age of 70 on Sunday, April 3, 2011 in Palm Desert, CA after a day enjoying his favorite passion, a round of golf. Arne is survived by his wife and Ballard High School sweet heart, Barbara (Valentine), his children; Jon (Linda), Kristin, Liza (Arvid) Straume, his grand children; Lauren, Anders, Ingrid, Kohl and Elli and sister Corrine (Bill) Swift. Arne was a graduate of the University of Washington where he studied Civil Engineering. After college he served in the US Army Corp of Engineers for two years and then joined his father's business as a project manager at Cawdrey- Vemo. In 1974 Arne started his own successful general construc tion company, The Vemo Compa ny where they specialized in public works projects including schools, college buildings, US Navy and US Army construction projects. A proud Norwegian, Arne was active in his business community serving on many boards including Ballard Swedish Hospital, The Nordic Heritage Museum, The Seattle Golf Club and a past president of the AGC of Washington. Arne was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of great character, respected business man, and good friend to all. His wisdom and kindness will be missed by those where were blessed to have known him. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 1:00 pm, at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach, 18354 8th Avenue NW, Shoreline, WA. Reception immediately follow ing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sharing Alongside, PO Box 33663, Seattle, WA 98133 OR Nordic Heritage Museum, 3014 NW 67th Street, Seattle, WA 98117 in his name.
