Betty B. VUYLSTEKE Betty B. Vuylsteke passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Edmonds, Washington. Betty was born in Cloverdale, Oregon on March 25, 1923. She moved with her parents to Portland to attend high school and later attended Pacific University at Forest Grove, Oregon whereshe met Frank. Betty and Frank were married in 1943 after he re- ceived his commission in the Navy. Following WWII, Betty and Frank moved to Seattle where he found work and they started a family. In her late 30s, Betty attended Seattle Pacific University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Betty eventually taught first grade at both Lake City and Magnolia Elementary Schools in Seattle for nearly 25 years. Frank passed away in 1986 and Betty retired in 1988 to take care of her disabled son, Craig, until he passed in 2002. Betty continued on enjoying her reading and the company of her loving family. She will be remembered fondly by her many students and her longtime friends from the Broadview area where she lived and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Ballard. Betty is survived by her sons Ken and Keith (Susan), her grand-children Tessa, Jena, and Dana, and her great-grandchildren Cory, Jack, and Malia. As Betty requested, a private grave side ceremony will be held at the Pacific Lutheran area at Washelli on Saturday, May 21.
