Blaine "Mac" McCOOL Blaine "Mac" McCool was born February 1, 1923 in Emmett, Idaho and died January 11, 2006 in Edmonds, Washington. Blaine traveled extensively as a child due to his father being a postal worker and a customs agent. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1941. Blaine then entered the Cadet Program to join the Army Air Corp. After the Air Corp, Blaine went to work for Boeing and began night school for architecture at the University of Washington. Shortly following graduation, he opened his own firm, eventually expanding to McCool- McDonald Architects Inc. which entered into a partnership called North West Design Associates. Through his years of architecture, his firm designed multiple housing for residents of the Alaskan North Slope. In 1967 Blaine's company designed the Centennial Building in Sitka, Alaska and the Governmental Center in Juneau, Alaska. His company also designed several prominent buildings, both residential and commercial, in the greater Seattle area; one being the first prototype for the King County HUD program. Blaine was an avid golfer, participating in the Bob Hope Desert Classic in 1973. Blaine's love of flying will never be forgotten. Not many people have life-long friends; Blaine however had four that were in touch with him through his final days: Gus and Lou Willgus who kept in contact by phone from California, and most importantly Don and Phyllis Grandville, who were constant support for both him and his family. Funeral Services have been held in Edmonds, Washington. Memorials may be given in Blaine's name to Swedish Medical Foundation, 747 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98112 - Work of Howard Lewis, MD.
