Clair Elmer Skold Obituary
Clair Elmer Skold

Clair Elmer Skold passed away on June 6, 2018. Elmer was born on April 7, 1933 in Sterling, Colorado to Clair Arthur and Beatrice Wood Skold. With his sister, Betty Lou, born in 1935, the family moved to Golovin, Alaska in 1940 to teach English to the Eskimos. In 1942, the family moved to Bellingham, WA. Elmer graduated from Bellingham High School in 1951 and then attended the University of Washington, became a member of Chi Psi, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. He met Patricia Moore in 1956 and they were married on June 8, 1957. They lived in Bellingham for three years and then moved to Seattle.

Elmer and Pat moved across the country when Elmer was appointed to the staff of the Peace Corps in Washington, D.C. This began a memorable period of 10 years with the Peace Corps, two years in Malaysia as an associate director and two years in the Kingdom of Tonga as director of the program. Daughter Elizabeth was born in Kuching, Malaysia and David was born in Washington, D.C.

Elmer moved to Seattle with his wife Pat and their children in 1976. He was deeply involved in the Bothell United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir for nearly 40 years. In addition, he sang with a men's gospel group called The Sojourners for almost 20 years, performing at nursing homes, churches, and public concerts. In 2003, Elmer was appointed one of the original members of the Downtown Task Force for the city of Kenmore, a position he served in until December 2009. Elmer was probably best known for his work with the Kenmore Heritage Society. He became involved only a year after the societies inception and later served as president for six years. He also helped in editing "Kenmore by the Lake" a history book published by the Kenmore Heritage Society.

Elmer is survived by Pat, his loving wife of almost 61 years, daughter Elizabeth Rattie (Dennis) and son David and four grandchildren-Emma Rattie and Ethan Rattie, William Skold and Sara Skold. He was predeceased by parents Clair and Beatrice Skold and his sister Betty Lou Phelps.

A Memorial service will be held at Bothell United Methodist Church, 18515 92nd Ave N.E., Bothell, WA on Friday,
