Delmont "Del" ULRICH Age 92, passed away on Friday, April 22. Del was born at home in 1919 in Connell, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington and then attended the University of Minnesota Medical School. Del received specialty training in Internal Medicine at Milwaukee County Hospital where he earned his first paycheck as a doctor - 25 cents! During WWII Del served in the US Army Medical Corps at Madigan General Hospital. Following the war, he interned at Harborview Hospital where Del met Swanie, the love of his life. They were married in 1946. Del set up medical practice in Seattle. He often said, "I love practicing medicine." Del treated his patients with integrity and compassion. He was also active in the Washington State Society of Internal Medicine, Washington State Medical Society and King County Medical Society. Del taught clinical medicine at the UW Medical School for 33 years. He enjoyed the intellectual stimulation of interacting with medical students. Del was an avid Husky football fan. Del and Swanie shared extensive world travel. They enjoyed skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, camping, tennis, and boating in the San Juans. An annual highlight was getting together with relatives and going salmon fishing at Neah Bay. Del took great pride in barbequing the salmon that he had caught. In 1983, Del retired and took up another career - being a grandfather. With his grandsons, he enjoyed many outdoor activities - salmon fishing, camping and skiing. Del took a genuine interest in their activities and academic pursuits. Del was a faithful member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Laurelhurst. He and Swanie attended for 60 years. Del's deep love and devotion to his faith, family and friends was paramount in his life. Del was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially their three children, Bev Allen (Jim), Jim Ulrich (Cyndy) and Dean Ulrich and their five grandsons, Paul (Iva), Mark, Eric, Ryan and Aaron. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 26th, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in the Chapel, 4805 NE 45th St, Seattle.
