Doris Ducharme Obituary

Doris Ducharme

Born March 5, 1925, Life-long Ballard resident Doris (Dee) Ducharme passed away peacefully in her own home on Oct. 11th 2013. She was predeceased by her parents, Ballard pioneers Margaret & George White, her husband of 46 years, Herman (Dusty) Ducharme, and her brother George White. Our wonderful mother leaves two children, Diane (Fred) Dallyn, Burnaby, BC, and Steve (Lynda) Ducharme, Issaquah. Also her cherished grandchildren, Seth (Colleen) Dallyn, Burnaby, BC, Sean (Anna) Ducharme and Sara (Martin) Livi, Seattle, and their mother Stephanie Stauffer Ducharme, Seattle. Dee was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Fiona Doris and Chase Dallyn, Burnaby, BC, Sareesa Livi, and Sophia Doris Ducharme, Seattle.

Dee will be much missed by her sister-in-law and good friend, Marion White, Seattle; niece Susan Kelly, Vashon Is; nephew George White III, Vancouver, WA, and long-time friend and neighbor Kayte Teeple. The family will always be grateful to Sara and Martin for their loving care of Mom and never-ending patience over the last two years. Thanks, Mom, for your constant support, encouragement, and unconditional love throughout our lives. You were the embodiment of every good quality a mother should be. We were blessed. Our consolation now is knowing that you and Dad are together again after so many years apart. To quote from one of Mom's favorite movies, "The Wizard of Oz," "A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others." And Mom, you always have and always will be much loved by so many. A private family gathering will be held in Mom's honor. In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to Gentiva Hospice Foundation.

It's hard to believe a year has already gone by. There are so many things I would like to have shared with you. I still feel your love and support in everything I do. That's not surprising; it's part of what made you the world's best mother.
Love, Diane

Mom, there's been so much to tell you about in the few short months that you've been gone. Everyone knows how much you would've loved watching the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. You would have been "flabbergasted."
Fred and I made the trip to Disneyland that I first told you about last summer. Seth & Colleen and the kids flew down; we met up with them later. It occurred to me that Fiona and Chase were the fifth generation of our family to visit Disneyland. They enjoyed it as much as we did in the 50's and 60's, except that they are much braver on the scary rides.
Still missing you & wish I could get on the phone & talk to you.
Love, Diane

I will truly miss this wonderful lady. I really enjoyed our time together. Always fun showing up with a new sweet that she would just drool over. Dee will be forever in my heart. My heart and thoughts go out to her family.

I cannot even imagine how much my sister, Kayte Teeple, is going to miss having you just across the street. For me, I will always chuckle thinking of you and mom "pretending" to hear each other when you were BOTH half-deaf. But I will always remember that gorgeous twinkle you got in your eyes when you laughed. Life is just so darned short, isn't it, Dee?!

Dear Gorgeous, You have always been one of my most favorite people. We had our own private relationship that I will always treasure & truly miss. Knowing you & being loved by you always meant so much to me & I will miss that. We will share it again. Until we meet again, forever in my heart. Vicki

It's not often that someone that you've spent so little time with has such a positive, lasting impact on your life. I can probably count on both hands the number of times that I've had the privilege of spending some time with Dee, yet each and every time was an absolute pleasure. She was truly a gem and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her, including me.

Your "other kids" will miss you! You and Dusty were wonderful neighbors and we will never forget your kindness in helping us out when our kids were born. Love you Dee. The Zincks - Bill, Sandy, Marie, Danielle, and "Moosie" (aka Glen) xxx

I loved and enjoyed doing Doris's hair for over 15 years . Full of class, spunk and a lot of love for her family . I am so glad she was a part of my life . I will miss our visits and conversations . But have a warm heart knowing that she is finally with her husband again !

You were the classiest, most loving, accepting woman I ever met. And one heck of a tapdancer! There's a big hole in my heart.
