1928 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Evelyn Gail Hammett

Evelyn Gail Hammett of Kent, WA passed away on August 23, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born a twin at her parent's home on April 17, 1928 in Seattle, WA (White Center) to Jesse Anthony Neiswender and Helen Mary Neiswender (Van Vliet).

Evelyn attended Mountain View Elementary School where her father was the principal. She and her twin, Esther, attended Highline High School briefly before finishing up at Prairie High School in Three Hills, Alberta. At least part of this time World War II was raging on in many parts of the rest of the world where their three brothers were actively serving their country.

Feeling a call to God's service both Evelyn and her twin decided to go on to further their studies at Prairie Bible Institute (PBI). After receiving a diploma from Prairie she next attended Seattle Pacific College (SPC/SPU) where she earned her teaching certificate. After leaving SPC Evelyn had a long rewarding career as a teacher primarily within the Highline School District.

Evelyn married and had 5 children. She was a clever person with a great sense of humor. Above all she had an abiding sense of concern and compassion for others. Even though she had her hands full with her career and raising her own family she still felt it was important to provide a stable environment as a foster parent for one of her students and their sibling for a two year period.

Retirement did not slow Evelyn down at all. She kept herself busy teaching Bible studies and Sunday school at her church, tutored at the Women's Correctional Facility at Purdy, and taught English as a Second Language (ESL). If this was not enough she also earned a Doctor's Degree from Covington Theological Seminary.

Evelyn and her twin got together whenever possible. Besides spending time with family, and playing their favorite card game, they also did some significant travel which included sightseeing in Europe, Israel, and Alaska to name a few places.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Marji Winters of San Jose, CA; sons Roger Hammett III of Kent, WA; Ted Hammett (Renee) of Eagle River, AK.; and James Hammett (Marie-Andree) of Bellingham, WA; daughters Adene Hammett of Kent, WA; and Elizabeth Vernon of Kent, WA; grandchildren Paul, Sarah, Noah, Jessie-Joy, Jean-Paul (JP), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her brothers Jesse, Lawrence, and Chester, her twin sister Esther, and her grandson Micah.

A Celebration of Life was held with her family and friends.
