Gloria Joanne DAVIS Gloria Joanne Davis, lovingly known as Grandma Glo, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2011, in Issaquah, Washington. She was 90 years old. Glo was the only child of Ralph and Helen Scarano, born on April 2, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up in Cleveland and attended college at Ohio University where she met and fell in love with Ross Davis. They married in 1940. Glo and Ross, a High School Band Director, made their home in Ohio and throughout the midwest before settling in California in 1950. Glo spent these happy years as a busy homemaker and devoted mother to her three children. Ross and Glo divorced in 1965 and shortly thereafter she completed her BA in Journalism. Her three children proudly attended her graduation from Cal State Fullerton in 1968. Glo began her career working for newspapers in Orange County, California. In 1969, she moved to Seattle and was immediately hired by the University of Washington where she worked until her retirement in 1988. Glo was known and respected by many at the UW and finished her career as Manager of Temporary Services, assigning more than 200 employees each month to serve throughout campus. Following retirement, Glo volunteered at Hopelink, Election Precincts, the US Census Bureau, and her church. She lived for many years in Queen Anne, followed by Bellevue and Redmond. Glo's passions included cooking, good restaurants, theater, reading, Husky Football, her beloved Seattle Mariners (a member of the Seattle Mariners Women's Club) , ferry boat rides and travel. She saw the world on 13 cruises and claimed Australia as her favorite destination. Glo's family was her greatest passion, by far, and she offered them boundless love and support. Eager to share her Italian heritage, Glo was famous for hosting large Italian feasts for family and friends. She was the supreme hostess creating legendary food and joyous memories around her table. Grandma Glo will be greatly missed by her children: Connie Jo (Jerry) Brower of Des Moines, Washington; Keith (Jonathan) Davis of Lisbon, Portugal; and Frank (Gretchen) Davis of Issaquah, Washington. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren: Doug, Mark, Rachel, Kara, and Tyler and her 4 great grandchildren: Jessica, DJ, Joe, and Kayla. Glo also leaves a huge network of friends that enriched her life. A celebration of Life will be held for Glo at 4:00pm on Saturday, April 9th at Overlake Park Presbyterian Church, 1836 156th AVE NE, Bellevue, WA 98007 (425)746-8080. In lieu of flowers, Glo requested that donations be made to Hopelink, P.O. Box 3577, Redmond, WA 98073; 425-869-6000.
