Dr. Gregory Lee LIPSKI Born June 18th, 1967 Greg passed away peacefully on the morning of May 31st, 2010 after a long battle with leukemia and complications from treatment. Greg graduated from Bethel High school in 1985, and attended the University of Washington with an ROTC scholarship, graduating in 1989 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He received the 'Commander Battalion' award during college, the highest honor for an ROTC student. He wenton to spend 5 years in the Navy, working as a submarine officer. Following his time in the Navy, he earned a masters degree in engineering at UW and worked in the department of Aeronautics at UW for many years. In 2003,Greg made a career change and entered the University of Washington School of Medicine. Despite being diagnosed with leukemia his second year of medical school, Greg studied for classes and finals while undergoing chemotherapy in the hospital. He was awarded the Ellen Griep Award in 2007 and graduatedto a standing ovation in June 2008. He began residency in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Washington, in hopes of pursuing his dream of becoming an anesthesiologist. Due to relapse of leukemia, he was forced to give up his residency, but never gave up his dream of becoming an anesthesiologist, reading books about critical care medicine at home. In his spare time, Greg was a championship cyclist, winning many local races in both velodrome and road racing, He was a member of the University of Washington Cycling Team and also worked at Gregg's Greenlake Cycles. He also enjoyed fishing, riding motorcross, golfing and playing guitar. Greg will be most remembered however, not for his many accomplishments, but for his integrity, honesty, humility, strength of character and the love and friendship he blessed his friends and family with throughout the years. He will be sorely missed by all. He is survived by his wife Erin Currin, mother Masako, father Bernard, sister Vicki, brother Curtis, sister-in-law Susan, nephew Andy, niece Erika and his favorite golden lab Pavlov. Memorial Service will be heldon June 6th at 2pm at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Health Sciences Building, Hogness Auditorium, A-420. Donations in his memory can be made to 'UW Foundation," with notation on the donation to UW Medicine Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship Fund in memory of Greg Lipski.
