James John, Jr.

James John Jr., age 93, long time resident of Bellevue and Mercer Island, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019. Born August 25, 1925 in Seattle, he attended Broadway HS. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was honorably / medically discharged in 1944. Attending the UW, Jim earned a degree in Architecture, athletic letters in baseball, was a member of the Purple Shield, Big W and SAE fraternity.

In 1947 he married his high school sweetheart Mary Louise Gardner. Following college, Jim joined architecture firm John W. Maloney, became a partner of Maloney, Harrington, Friez & Lund, eventually establishing his own firm Mills, John & Rigdon, a commercial design firm specializing in hospitals. Jim enjoyed many golfing trips with close friends from Overlake Golf and Country Club, touring England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal & New Zealand. He was an avid fly fisherman, Husky football fan, gardener, lover of the Big Island and the sunshine.

Jim will be missed by many, but especially by is loving wife of 71 years, his son Steven John (Jean), daughter Teresa McBarron Simmons (Doug), grandchildren Nicole Pyle (Ted), Ryan McBarron (Jackie), Lindsey John, Kyle McBarron (Alexa) and Shelby John; and three great grandchildren Cameron & Charlotte Pyle & Jack McBarron.

The family plans a private celebration of his life.

Ann and I are extremely saddened to learn about Jim passing. He was an extremely talented Architect and a privilege to have as a Partner. We extend our sincere condolances to Mary Lou and all the members of her wonderful family.
