Jane M Griffiths JACQUES Jane Margaret Griffiths Jacques, age 88 died February 9, 2011, in Silverdale, Washington. She was born May 7, 1922 at 101 Sutton Manor Road, New Rochelle, New York, to the late Charles Hayden Griffiths and late Marion Breen Griffiths. Her husband, the late Robert B. Jacques passed on in 1955. She was a great swimmer and accomplished spring board diver during High School at Fairfax Hall in Fairfax, VA. She also loved to sing while playing the piano and continued singing throughout her life both in church and community chorus. After graduating from Fairfax Hall she attended Barnard College in NYC and graduated with a B.S. in education from the Ohio State University in 1944. She married Robert B. Jacques in Columbus, Ohio on June 12, 1943. She and Bob had 3 sons. After the death of her husband she obtained her Masters degree in teaching from Columbia University in New York. The next 15 years were spent providing for and raising three sons while teaching Elementary School grades 2-5 in Columbus, Ohio. After the death of her father she pursued her love of art, by attending classes at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. She was constantly trying new things such as oil, water color, pencil, and block prints. She has left a wonderful collection of her work to her family. While in Hawaii she became a student of Buddhism and had a wonderful association with the Buddhist Study Center including a 1981 trip to Japan to see the places where Shinran Shonin actually lived, which brought great understanding and meaning into her life. She also took great pride in her cultural Welch Heritage especially the music. She is survived by three sons; Jon (Arsenia) of Honolulu, David (Karen) of Wayland, Massachusetts, Mark (Nancy) of Bainbridge Island, Washington; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. A memorial service to spread Jane's ashes into Haleakala Crater in Maui is planned in the next year.
