John David Boatman Obituary
John David Boatman

The world lost one of the best in the early hours of Monday August 6, 2018 to cancer. John was born December 14, 1943 in Orlando, Florida. He grew up in Seattle, graduated from Roosevelt High School, attended Linfield College and graduated from Seattle University. He also served 6 years in the National Guard. Fifty years ago in 1968 he married his best friend Ann. John is survived by his wife, Ann; three children Amy (Fred), Brian (Molly) & Kristy (Eric), five grandchildren (Sophia, Ella, Finn, Mac and Kallie) and his beloved beagle Buddy.

John joined the Seattle Police Department in 1967. He spent the majority of his time as homicide detective, retiring after 37 years of service. Family was always the most important to him. John was the best Dad, always there for his kids - coaching sports, cheering from the sidelines and never missing a game or school activity. He loved getting to know his kids' friends, everyone was always welcome in our home. He was a proud Papa to his grandkids who were the highlight of his life.

John had a great sense of humor and wit, always ready with a quick come back. He loved to play golf with his buddies, boating, working in the yard, reading books on the deck and relaxing with a glass of good Scotch. He and Ann spent most of their retirement traveling the world, spending quality time with the family on Vashon Island, Sunday family dinners and surrounding themselves with a close circle of friends.

The family would like to thank Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for their kind, compassionate care over the last few months.

A special thank you to Dr. Daniel Fishbein who cared for John as a patient but more importantly a friend over the last 28 years.
