Judith Ann (Smith) Hill
Judy passed away on July 16, 2014 from never-smoker lung cancer. Twenty percent of women who die of lung cancer are never-smokers. She was born and raised in Portland OR. Judy graduated from Milwaukee High School with honors and was voted Most Likely to Succeed. She attended Oregon State University where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She moved to Seattle in 1965 and taught in the Highline and Seattle School Districts. Judy loved to travel, do crossword puzzles, walk in her Mt. Baker neighborhood, was an avid reader and a big sports fan. She enjoyed her membership in the Women's University Club where she served on the board. She was also a 28 year member of The Seattle Section of MBCA and was named Member of the Year in 1996.
Judy is survived by her husband of 44 years Ken, her parents Leroy and Peggy Smith of Federal Way, her brother Don (Bev) of Lakebay WA/Green Valley AZ and sister Donna Cassidy of Portland OR. The support and love shown to Judy and Ken by friends and family over the 7 1/2 years she lived with cancer meant so much to her. She was very grateful for the great care given by the doctors, nurses and staff at Group Health's Capitol Hill Oncology Department. At her request, there will be no service. Contributions in her memory can be made to Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education (GRACE), 4616 25th Ave. N.E. #300, Seattle WA 98105 or
CancerGrace.org. GRACE is a lung cancer non-profit that Judy relied on for information and support. During her disease, she mentored many people who were newly diagnosed with lung cancer and was a great help to them. She is already greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
