At a young age her family traveled south to settle in Ballard, WA. She attended Ballard High School and graduat ed with honors June 1949. She married Bill Grotjahn on March 22, 1952 and raised three children Julie, Cathy and Dave. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker who was devoted to her six grandchildren. She loved to knit not only for her family but also hats as a donation to the Children's Center. For 15 years she volunteered each week at First Lutheran Church helping out with treasury duties. She traveled with her husband back to Alaska four times visiting the old mining town of Kennecott where her childhood home still stands.
