Marlene Ann Benko

Marlene Ann Benko was born on August 31, 1931 in Amherst, Ohio. The only child of Heinrich and Amelia Amenhauser, she attended Amherst High School, and Ohio State University. Marlene married Edward Benko in 1954, they lived in 6 different states while Ed was in the Navy, before settling in Kirkland. They had two children Lisa, who lives with her husband and twin girls in Bellevue and David, who lives with his wife and 3 sons in Vancouver, WA. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Marlene was very active in her kid's lives. She loved to garden, sew and do crafts. She loved being a Grandma. She was known as "Grandma Cookie" amongst the neighborhood kids, always with a jar full of cookies. One of the most important things in Marlene's life was her church, she was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran in Bellevue for nearly 60 years. She travelled all over the U.S. and Europe. Germany was a favorite, where she visited her relatives in the village her dad was born in. She also loved music, and to dance. She had season tickets to the "Pops" concerts for over 20 years. Her favorite song was "In the Garden". Marlene died on July 7th of Alzheimer's. We miss her everyday, but know she is safely home with the Lord, walking in the garden.
