Mary Jo DVORAK Mary Jo (Forsell) Dvorak slipped away peacefully on May 18, 2011 following a short illness, succumbing to an aggressive form of colon cancer. She was a lifelong Seattle resident, born on May 5, 1926. She is survived by her husband George Dvorak, children Carolyn Nielsen and Frank Dvorak, their spouses, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Josie, as she was known to her friends, graduated from Montlake Grade School, Garfield High School, and the University of Washington. She and George married on July 8, 1947. Mary Jo was a talented musician who played piano and flute. She loved folk dancing and all outdoors activities, especially skiing, hiking, and bicycling. She enjoyed bird watching, wildflower study, lakes, seashores, mountains, and working and relaxing at the family's Whidbey Island 'Farm'. She was an over 60 year member of University Congregational United Church of Christ and P.E.O., devoting a lifetime of service to both organizations. When her children were young, she was a Girl Scout and a Cub Scout leader. Later she served on the Church's Child Care Board. Mary Jo was an avid traveler. Traveling together, she and George visited all 50 states and all 7 continents. A service in her memory will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM, at University Congregational UCC, 4515 16th Ave. NE, Seattle. Donations in her memory may be made to University Congregational UCC or a charity of your choice.
