Mary Rioch Pace

Obituary Condolences

Mary Rioch PACE Age 96. Born in 1914 in upstate New York, and passed away 16 March 2011 in Seattle, seven years after her husband, U.W. Prof Antonio Pace. She is survived by two children, Julian and Laura. She earned a B.A. at Syracuse University and later, in her fifties, a Masters at the U.W.A dedicated artist and a keen observer of colors and textures in the natural world - she was fascinated by "infinite diversity in consistent pattern" - she produced hundreds of paintings all through her life, the last only days before her passing. Mary was a person of great determination who bested many obstacles on the path to her life's goals. As a child, she would scramble up the mountain behind her home, rappelling up the rusted cables in an abandoned quarry to reach the hemlocks at the mountain's peak, climb the tallest one, and swing in the breeze from its highest stem. She's up there now, swinging free at last.
