Miyoko Maryann Kodama Obituary
Miyoko Maryann Kodama

Our sweet Mom and Grammy passed away at the age of 88 on August 2, 2018.

Miyoko was born in Seattle in 1929 to Dr. Toshikiyo & Sada Uchida. At age 11 she was sent to Japan with her brother for their education. The war broke out and she lost communication with her parents who were sent to relocation camps. It would be a couple years before they were able to connect again.

After the war, she worked for the US Army in Tokyo where she met her future husband Tom who was also born in Seattle. Their first daughter Lianne was born. The family returned to the U.S. in 1953. Being a mom was always her first job. She also worked at National Life Insurance Company, Seattle Stevedore and the Boeing Company where she retired with 25 years of service.

Miyoko loved spending time with family and friends. She loved to travel, dance, sing and break bread (ok, rice) with many friends. She was always ready to connect with old and new friends, always up for a new adventure. Always smiling.

Miyoko will be missed by many including her daughters Lianne Reiko Kozan (Ron), grandson Tom Kozan, daughter Cindy Kodama Floresca (Jose.) She is also survived by her brother Tom Uchida, Tom Kodama, cousins Amy Brown, Jan Hibiya Murayama, Margaret Iwanaga Penrose, nephews, nieces, extended family and many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 12th at 3:00 at Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church, 3001 24th Ave S. (North of S. Hanford St.) Seattle, WA 98144. 206-723-1536.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church, Keiro Northwest or Nisei Veterans Committee
