Ora Krienke Obituary

Ora "Karl" Krienke, Jr.

Karl Krienke, emeritus professor of physics, mathematics and computer science who taught at SPU for 44 years, passed away on December 7, 2018. Karl was a Seattle Pacific University alumnus (B.A. '53 and M.A. '55) and served as professor and dean of the School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences before his retirement in 1997. He held master's degrees in religion, physics, astronomy along with a PhD in astronomy from the University of Washington and also attended Simpson Bible College. In 1960 he married Reita Fletcher and they remained together for 58 years until his passing.

During his time at Seattle Pacific, he was named Professor of the Year in 1981 and was awarded the Alumni Medallion Award in 1993. He became an ordained minister in the Free Methodist church in 1959 and would combine theology with his love science and astronomy to passionately share how science demonstrated the existence of God noting in 2004, "We are in the process of discovering a God far greater than we've ever envisioned before".

He was a long-time member of Seattle First Free Methodist church where he taught adult Sunday school and enjoyed helping serve communion for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Reita, son Martin (wife Kiola), and daughter Carol (Krienke) Gunning (husband Mike) along with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Karl Krienke's Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 20, at 1:00 p.m. in the First Free Methodist Church, Seattle (across from the SPU campus), reception following. A live stream of the service for those unable to attend will be available at https://livestream.com/FFMC/kkrienke

The family suggests that those wishing to make a memorial gift send their contribution to Seattle Pacific University and designate it to the O. Karl Krienke Undergraduate Research Endowment.
