Robert Baer Obituary

Robert O. BAER A memorial service for Robert O. Baer will be held Saturday, February 28th at 2 pm at Northshore Baptist Church, Bothell, WA. Private burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, OR. Mr. Baer died of cancer on February 13th, in Kirkland, WA. Born February 9th, 1917 in Fayette, Ohio, Mr. Baer moved to Portland, OR while a child. He graduated from Benson High School, and Oregon State University. On May 3rd, 1942, he married Eleanor Rose Helmer of Portland. Mr. Baer was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and reached the rank of Major before an honorable discharge in 1958. He finished 20 years of service in the reserves and retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean War. He was awarded the bronze star for meritorious service. After leaving the Air Force he moved his family to Seattle, WA. From 1958 until 1975 he was employed by the Boeing Company. In 1976, Mr. Baer moved to West Linn, OR. He was employed with Tektronics until his retirement. During his time in West Linn, he was active in a number of service endeavors. He delivered Meals On Wheels, bound books for the West Linn Library, and served coffee and donuts at the high school. He was an active member of the West Linn Baptist Church, and the Mount Scott Kiwanis club. In declining health he moved to Kirkland, WA in July 2003 to be near his sons. Mr. Baer is survived by his sons, Roger A. of Kirkland, WA, and Gregory R. of Des Moines, WA; three granddaughters, two grandsons, two great-granddaughters, and four great-grandsons.
