Ronald Bryant Obituary

Ronald Allen Bryant

On May 24, 1948, Ronald Allen Bryant was born in Dallas, TX to Eugene Willis Bryant and Dorothy Eakin Bryant. On December 23, 2018, he died peacefully surrounded by his loving family from rare and untreatable prostate cancer.

He was a wonderful family man and a world-class dentist; he absolutely loved both his family and his career. In his own words, "My family is number one. My wife, Cheryl, and I have been married 50 years, and we have two wonderful grown sons (Jon and Jason), two lovely daughters-in-law (Austin and Marisa), two beautiful granddaughters (Mikayla and Audrey), and a grandson (Max), who (like me) loves to build things. We feel blessed and are very proud of them all."

He was proud of his family, and his family was also so very proud of him. He was a kindhearted, positive, curious, enthusiastic, generous, and vibrant man who positively impacted so many lives. His death is a tremendous loss for his family, his friends, and the field of dentistry.

Dr. Bryant truly felt like he was born to be a dentist. As a child, he was always interested in arts and crafts, and could often be found building things in his father's workshop. In school, his favorite subject was science. In 7th grade, after a visit to his dentist he decided dentistry was a perfect blend of art, craftsmanship, and science. He decided right then to become a dentist and never wavered. As a boy he earned his Eagle Scout which helped establish and cement a legendary work ethic that is the envy of any achiever. He applied this work ethic in pursuit of becoming the very best dentist he could possibly be.

Before beginning his dental career, he earned his B.S. from University of Texas, Arlington, and his D.D.S. from Baylor Dental College in Dallas (where he was so grateful for the guidance and mentorship he received from Dr. Jesse T. Bullard). After becoming a dentist, he completed a two-year residency at University of Washington School of Dentistry earning a specialty M.S.D. degree in prosthodontics with emphasis in the field of periodontal prosthodontics.

After completing his M.S.D. at U.W., he and his family fell in love with the Seattle area and decided to make it their home. After he began practicing, he was determined to develop into one of the best dentists in his field. He was always thrilled to attend courses providing advanced training in the most cutting-edge dental techniques. He passionately studied cosmetic dentistry, dental implant surgery and restoration, prosthodontics, restorative dentistry, periodontics, advanced soft tissue and bone grafting surgical procedures, TMJ, laser dentistry, sedation dentistry, dental porcelain, and dental laboratory procedures.

As a prosthodontist, Dr. Bryant excelled in restorative and reconstructive dentistry. He was regarded by many of his peers as one of the best clinicians in the world. As a tribute to him and all he achieved we are listing his many professional accomplishments below.

Dr. Bryant was board-certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics, a process requiring a rigorous test passed only by about 30 percent of trained prosthodontists. He was also board-certified by the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry. Additionally, he was one of only 35 prosthodontists in the world to have earned board certification in both prosthodontics and implant dentistry.

Dr. Bryant also attained the distinction of Accredited Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, an honor earned by fewer than 50 dentists worldwide. Because of these accomplishments and other notable qualifications, many dentists have referred their patients to Dr. Bryant for difficult and complicated treatments.

His additional professional distinctions include being awarded Fellow in the American College of Prosthodontists (FACP), Fellow in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and Fellow in the American College of Dentists (FACD). He also had memberships in the American Dental Association, Washington State Society of Prosthodontists, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Academy of Osseointegration, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, Washington State Dental Association, Seattle-King County Dental Society. Further, he was a former faculty member at both the University of Washington School of Dentistry and Baylor Dental College. He also achieved honors in Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry Award, Baylor Odontological Honor Society, and the Psi Omega Scholastic Award.

While his family and his career were his greatest passions, he also enjoyed photography - especially nature and wildlife photography. Photography was in his genes; his father was a professional portrait photographer, as was his brother. He also enjoyed flying single-engine aircraft and had ratings for land, sea, and IFR.

Dr. Bryant is survived by his wife Cheryl McDonough Bryant; sons Jonathan Allen Bryant (wife Austin) and Jason Bryant (wife Marisa); grandchildren Mikayla Leigh Bryant, Audrey Anne Bryant and Maxwell Jameson Bryant; and siblings Ray Howard Bryant (wife Debra) and Robyn Bryant McDowell (husband Fred).

He was a man beloved by many who gave so much to his family and to the world. He will be greatly missed and is gone much too soon.

Funeral services will be held on December 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 22209 58th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the following charities important to Dr. Bryant: American National Red Cross, Northwest Harvest, or Seattle's Union Gospel Mission.

Maria Bonesteel, I knew Dr. Bryant was sick but you always think the person you admire, and respect so much will be health again. I had hope that he would be back to work soon Unfortunately didn't happen. I will miss him as person and as a great professional as he was. Rest in peace Dr. Bryant.

I just learned of doctor Bryant's death today while visiting his office it will always be his office to me. I first met dr. Bryant in 1977 when he first started his own dental practice I used to tease him that I paid the , down payment for his first house I'm sure that wasn't true but he got a laugh out of it. I too used to wonder what I would do if he ever retired never thinking he would ever pass before I did. He will be greatly missed by both his family and his patients. He will always be in my heart and in my mind. My prayers to his family.Love to all his family friends and his dear staff.

I only knew Dr Bryant as a patient, but it was for over 20 years.

Countless times, I referred him to others as, "the best dentist in Seattle."

Often, I told his staff how much I liked being in his office, notwithstanding the dental procedure I was about to face.

The saddest thing about death is the loss of knowledge the deceased takes with him.

Dr Bryant's accolades, prestige, and accomplishments were unsurpassed in the world of dentistry.

Wishes to family.

Some of my earliest memories was of Dr. Bryant's one-chair office, staring out the window down to the sparsely populated Seattle streets while waiting for my grandfather's appointment to finish so I could have my teeth cleaned too. I was six, too young to see the Dr., but for me he made an exception. All through my childhood my grandpa and I booked our appointments together to see Dr. Bryant, and the ritual of traveling downtown together, visiting with everyone in the office, and then eating lunch afterwards is still such a special memory of my childhood. During my check-up a few months ago Dr. Bryant reminded me of those early visits, of my now-deceased grandpa, and of the cartwheels I would perform down the office hallway for Casey and Joan (I vaguely remember this). He was so much more than just a dentist to me, and I will miss him dearly. My deepest condolences to his family and to the staff that worked side-by-side with him all of these years.

Oh my gosh. I'm so saddened by this tremendous loss. Dr. Bryant has been my dentist for nearly 40 years. I started seeing him in college, and never left. He is the best dentist ever, kind, compassionate, everything. I always had complete trust in him.

Sending love and hugs to his family, and also to his work family. Most of his staff have been there as long as I've attended.

I'm so sad. You are a great one.

Dr Bryant was a gem of a person and my dentist for 30 plus years. He is going to be sorely missed. He was gentle, humble, and always on message. Truly a professional. May he Rest In Peace. I send my sincere condolences to his family and his faithful staff.

Cheryl, Jon, Jason, and family... I am so sorry for your loss. Ron was my friend, and I loved him. But that acknowledgment just doesn't feel an adequate tribute. Without Ron, I would have likely never even visited WA State, where I've made my home for the last 40 years. Absent Ron's encouraging influence, I would not have had a 43+ year career in dental technology, and would likely never have met my wife of 31 years. Ron took me duck hunting in the 1960s, snow skiing in the 1970s, and sent me to dental seminars in the 1980s. Ron opened many doors for me, and his passionate zest for both dentistry and life was infectious. Although our paths diverged later in life, I will forever be thankful for Ron's influence and friendship. I pray that your thoughts of Ron will soon bring happy memories, and that smiles will again outweigh your tears of grief.

Ron was one of the most positive-thinking people I've ever met. Only had the privilege of being around him twice--a weekend trip to Crescent Bar and a thoughtful invitation to Thanksgiving at his and Cheryl's home. He was always the happiest kid in the room! Just made you want to sit close to him and talk about pretty much anything. I wish you all some periods of peace while you try your best to recover from your loss. Love to you all! Andrew Custer

After my appointment today, I asked how Dr. Bryant was and was told this news. I am stunned and saddened. I will miss his kind face and the warmth emanating from him. I felt complete confidence in him, and a happy continuity being a patient there after my previous dentist retired. I enjoyed having him treat me and just knowing he was there. There was a positive feeling every time I thought of "my dentist." I don't think I could find another like him. My sincerest condolences to his family.

We have been patients of the best dentist inn town for over 20 years. For the last few visits we would always ask the amazing staff,
"Doctor isn't planning on retiring, is he?
The constant answer, 'No, He's healthy, loves his patients and his work.

No matter the length or difficulty of his work, we never even had to take an aspirin.

We loved hearing about the last conference or training he had. He had such enthusiasm for learning the latest procedures and being the point of the sword.

He is one of the few people who really cannot be replaced. Our condolences to
his family(I met several of you jogging at Green Lake)and his staff who so loved and admired him. He treated all of our questions and challenges with such respect.

We were so fortunate to be in his world.

Sincerely, John & Heike Cannon

I am sorry that I will be unable to attend Dr. Bryant's funeral. My son, Ryan, had asked me to, but I am still under the weather from the bad cold that started on Christmas. I am sending a card to the office on Olive Way and hope it will find its way to you, his family.
Ryan wishes he could be with you. Please accept our sincere condolences.
