Susan D. Brodie Obituary
Susan D. Brodie

Sue Brodie passed away in Bellevue on December 23, 2018 after a nearly two-year battle with sarcoma. She was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, caregiver, and mentor to many.

Susan Diane was born August 26, 1944, the first child of Joe and Patti Bird (ne;e Cook) of Mercer Island. She attended WSU, where she met her first husband and friend for life, Bob Brodie. She later re-married Zeb Matthews, now of Portland, OR.

In the late 1970s, as a single woman, she stopped drinking alcohol, smoking, eating red meat, purchased a home in Bellevue and became a real estate agent at George Lister's firm. She was great at sales, and soon she was hired to manage the office at Prudential Michael Smith.

Sue managed RE/MAX Eastside Brokers from 2009 until 2018. Over decades of her career she mentored many others, focusing especially on empowering women to succeed professionally. She was active in charity, organizing food and clothing drives and other charitable activities throughout the community.

She was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always opened her home and heart. She was always focused on bringing out the best of and finding the good in people.

She passed away in peace in the morning on Sunday, December 23rd, at her home in Bellevue with her daughter Dena holding her hand.

She is survived by mother Patti Bird-Kirkdoffer; brother Tom Bird & his wife Barbee; sister Sharon Kirkdoffer; 1st husband Bob Brodie; 2nd husband Zeb Matthews; son Rob Brodie & husband Dave; daughter Dena Brodie, and grandchildren: Josh Richardson and wife Brenda, Brendan Richardson, and Grace Marie Richardson; great-grandson Joshua Junior; Bob's daughter Anna Pierce and husband Derek; nephew Nate Bird and wife Paige, Brian Kirkdoffer and wife Natalie; niece Grace Ellison and husband Jeremy, Christy Kirkdoffer; and cousin Sally McLaughlin. She will forever shine in the memory of these and so many, many more. >br/>
