Theresa Marie (Scarfone) Berta

Obituary Condolences

Theresa Marie (Scarfone) BERTA Theresa Marie Scarfone Berta, age 91 of Shoreline Washington passed peacefully, in her own home, on Friday February 4, 2011, with her family at her side. Theresa was born to Jesse and Mary Scarfone on April 25, 1919 in Canton, Ohio. She graduated in 1942 from the University of Portland School of Nursing. She joined the Navy as a Lieutenant (junior grade) and was stationed on a military sea transport during the Korean war. It was there that she met the love of her life, Lieutenant Commander Albert Berta. They married in 1950. Immediately following the war, both served on separate vessels and were reunited at war's end. The Berta's raised five children: Dr. Annalisa Berta, San Diego, California, Dr. Theresa Berta, Shoreline, Washington, Albert Berta Jr., Boulder, Colorado, Jessica Berta, Edmonds, Washington, and Alexander Berta, Broomfield, Colorado. After her last child was in school Theresa went back to work at Pacific Medical Center, Seattle, Washington as an ICU nurse. She loved nursing. Affectionately known as 'Mrs B.', she had a skill for baking the biggest, most delicious cookies, and brownies that were a mainstay in her kid's lunches and were quickly bought up at school bake sales. She leaves behind loving grandchildren Alissa, Alexandria, Albert, Francesca, and Whitney. Mother you will forever be in our hearts, and we will miss your smile, your laugh and the unconditional support and encouragement you gave to all of us. Her funeral mass will be held at St. Matthew Church, 1240 NE 127th St, Shoreline, Washington, on Wednesday February 9, 2011 at 11 am. The internment will follow at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St, Shoreline. A reception with the family is planned.
