Wayne Emerson YOUTZ Wayne Emerson Youtz, at the age of 97, died on January 5th, 2011, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1913, the younger son of Ethel Pickford Youtz and Waldo Emerson Youtz. He left college to support his parents. Through competitive examinations he was hired by International Business Machines Corporation as a customer engineer and was the top of his engineering training class in IBM's school in Endicott, New York. He chose assignment to the Des Moines Regional office where he met IBM Systems Service Representative Dorothy Jane Keyser. They married in 1943 in Montgomery, Alabama. They have two children, Saralinda Keyser Youtz Woo, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gregory Keyser Youtz, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Wayne was employed by the U.S. Bureau of the Census and was in charge of the processing of the 1950 population census. His innovations led to substantial savings in time and money for which he received high honors. He served as President of USE and made substantial contributions to the early development and use of computers. He is survived by his wife and children, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his only nephew. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Nativity, Raleigh, NC, on Saturday, January 29th, 2011, at 2:30 P.M. Interment will take place at Trinity Parish Episcopal Church, Seattle, Washington, on Tuesday, February 1st, at 10:30 A.M.
