Glenn Smith Obituary

Glenn J. SMITH In Loving Memory of Glenn J. Smith November 5, 1917 - September 5, 2003 After fulfilling dreams of his own and creating a world of beauty and imagination for countless others, Glenn passed on quietly and peacefully in the presence of loved ones. He enjoyed his childhood in West Seattle where he discovered his passion for art at a very early age. A graduate of West Seattle High School, Glenn took his art seriously. He made his passion his life's work - he lived his dream, though he would rarely, if ever, take credit for his talent or his success. These were gifts and he was very grateful to have been given them. Glenn Smith painted scenes of Seattle for more than 60 years. He began his career as a newspaper graphic artist, and later became the Staff Artist for Frederick & Nelson, where he worked for over 40 years. Young and old celebrated his award winning Christmas window displays and his fabulous murals, such as those in the Paul Bunyan room. His many paintings are a reflection of the beauty and spirit of the Northwest and the humor and warmth in his soul. After retirement, Glenn and his wife owned and operated a frame shop and gift store, Decorative Arts, in downtown Edmonds. Currently you will find Glenn's selections of cards in gift shops throughout the region and his paintings grace the walls of homes and businesses across the nation. A modest and quiet person (and occasionally a bit impish!) Glenn taught his family the importance of tolerance, compassion, fairness and humor. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. He leaves for now many creative and talented children, grandchildren and other family members to carry on his legacy. His son, Brian Smith and his daughter Pam (Richard) Dobbs shared their father's love with their mother, Nora (John) Lonski, stepsisters, Debbie (Robert) McCallum, Susan Levin, Kathleen (Shane) Carlson, stepbrothers Chris (Tonnie) Wolfe and Jeff (Karleen) Wolfe as well as many grandchildren, extended family and friends. His son, Tyler; his daughter, Marcia; his wife of 37 years, Jacqueline Smith; and his granddaughter, Rochelle Pederson, preceded Glenn in death. A Memorial Service will be held in Celebration of his Life on Saturday, September 27, 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beck's Funeral Home, 405 - 5th Ave. S., Edmonds, (425) 771-1234.
