Joan (Lindberg) GROUT The Joan Grout fan club suffered a heartbreaking loss Tuesday morning in a short-lived battle with leukemia. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, artist & friend, Joan Christina Lindberg Grout was born April 19, 1927 in Everett to Mabel & Albert Lindberg and passed away September 21, 2010. Joan grew up in Everett, graduating with the Class of 1945, attended Washington State College where she received her pharmacy degree and met her future husband, Morris Grout. Married 62 years, Joan & Morrie owned and operated the Marysville Rexall pharmacy and raised six children. In addition to her family, Joan's passions included cooking, painting, entering contests, world travel and community service activities. She was an inspirational painter since the 1960s, specializing in traditional transparent watercolors inspired by the Northwest landscapes. Joan was a signature member of the NW Watercolor Society, as well as an active member in the NW Collage Society, Seattle Co-Arts, GMAC, both Skagit & Snohomish County Art Guilds. (www.JoanGrout.com) Preceded in death by her parents and brother Dale, Joan will be deeply missed by her husband, Morrie; sons and daughters-in-law Bill (Kristin) of Half Moon Bay, CA; Gary (Lucy) of Kingston; Jack (Joanne) of Moses Lake; Dave (Janice) of Port Orchard; Doug (Sally) of Eugene OR; and daughter Donna Foss (Ron) of Marysville; her eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Joan also leaves behind her very special friend Mary Edwards, her family of WSU Delta Gamma sorority sisters, a legion of good friends she acquired throughher decades of service within the Friends of the Marysville Library, Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls of America and her interests in contesting. A private family memorial will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Everett where Joan was baptized, confirmed and married. A casual public celebration of Joan's life will be coordinated at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Hospice. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of Joan's family. I will miss her but I have great memories going back to the fall of 1945. May she rest in green pastures beside a cool stream free from pain. See you later old friend. Beva

I am so sorry to hear that Joan lost her battle with leukemia.
I enjoyed her calm presence at our meetings and I love her art work.
She was so lucky to have her art as a way of expressing herself. I
know it gave her years of peace and pride. I wish we all can live
life as gracefully as she did.
Our prayers are with you and her. Thank you for sharing her with us.

I met Joan when I joined the Greater Marysville Artist Guild in the '80's. Joan was a wonderful artist, teacher and friend. Thank you for your friendship and guidance, I shall be thinking of you with each stroke of my brush.

My sympathy to family. As a long time round robin pen-pal, I enjoyed sharing Jobie's life as a contester, artist and friend through her letters. We will miss her! Joan Verdeal (Arvada, Colrorado)
