Art Lustig Obituary

Art Lustig

("Lucky Louie")

Arthur Jack Lustig was born June 23, 1929 in Seattle to Barney Lustig and Esther Borish Lustig. He had 3 older sisters- Grace, Ann & Marilyn. He attended Broadway High School and graduated from Garfield when Broadway closed. While growing up, he worked at Pike Place Market in his Uncle Frank Hodgson's meat shop. Art loved sports his entire life and played semi-pro baseball after graduating. During the Korean War, Art enlisted in the Army Reserves because rumor had it the Reserves were never called up. His unit was the only one in West. Wash. to be activated and he served as cook at the Yakima Firing Range.

Art went on to own numerous independent grocery stores in the Seattle area as well as Tipples Restaurant. He also co-owned Upper Crust Catering with his son, Jim. Art retired in 1996.

He married Nina Foster in 1949 and they had 3 children. They divorced in 1972. Art married Sharon Jacobson Knight in 1982 and they lived close to Sand Point Country Club where Art pursued his passion for golf. His golfing career, which ended in 2012 following shoulder surgery, included 10 holes-in-one, and--his pride and joy---one double eagle. Art loved to travel and he & Sharon traveled the world.

In his retirement he dabbled in several business ventures and volunteered with various charities, including Boys & Girls Club of King County where he made lasting friends.

Art developed dementia almost 10 years ago. He passed away Feb. 15, 2015. He's survived by his wife, Sharon; his children from his first marriage John (Shelagh), Jim, Lisa (Rich Hernandez); stepson Eric Knight; grandchildren Caitlin Lustig, Shayla Knight & Brayden Knight; and his sister, Ann Nieder. The family is forever grateful for the kindness and respect Art received at Rose Park Manor where he resided these last three months.

A "celebration" will be scheduled in June. Donations: Alzheimer's Assn. (Art walked in the Alzheimer's Walk last Sept!) or Urban Hands, 8420 Greenwood Ave N., Seattle, WA 98103.

Many happy memories from times past!

I want to extend my condolences especially to Jim,
John, & Lisa at the loss of your father. I know it has been a long time since I have seen you, but I felt very close to you when we were growing up. It was meaningful to me when Jim acknowledged my fathers death. I wish the best for you all.
