SHELBYVILLE- Reverend Dr. Harold E. Henson, 87, of Shelbyville, died on Monday, the 11th day of March, 2019, at the University of Kentucky Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born in Junction City, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Samuel William and Lilly Phillips Henson. He received his master's degree in divinity from Emory University in Atlanta and his honorary doctorate from Kentucky Wesleyan College. A Methodist minister for over fifty-five years, he pastored churches in Mitchellsburg, Whitley City, Williamsburg, Barbourville, Somerset, Frankfort, Corbin, LaGrange, Versailles, and Bedford, and he also formerly served as District Superintendent for the Covington District. Before entering the ministry, he taught school in Perryville and Whitley City. An antiques buff, he studied, collected, refinished, and sold antiques and painted china. A gifted gardener, he produced award-winning flower gardens and cultivated magnificent orchids. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his survivors include his wife of over sixty-six years, Frances Hawkins Henson of Shelbyville; his son, Michael Edward Henson, and his wife, Jana, of Frankfort; his daughter Jennifer Henson Decker and her husband, Bill, of Waddy; his daughter Lisa Henson Faulkner and her husband, Todd, of Midlothian, Virginia; his six grandchildren, including Daniel Lee Henson of Manchester; David Michael Henson of Lexington; Jessica Decker Schmidt and her husband, Danny, of Lexington; William Bernard Decker III and his wife, Amanda, of New York City; Laura Beth Faulkner Williamson and her husband, Josh, of Midlothian, VA; Ann-Michelle Faulkner of Richmond, VA; and his two great-granddaughters, Charlotte Henson Schmidt and Isabella Grace Williamson.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Monday, the 18th day of March, 2019, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, with the Reverend Bishop Al Gwin, the Reverend Henry Lenoir, the Reverend Daniel Henson, and the Reverend Scott Woodburn officiating. Interment will be in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M., also on Monday, the 18th day of March, 2019, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Shelbyville.Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of contributions to Operation Care, Post office Box 1393, Shelbyville, Kentucky 40066.
