JEAN KEARNEY Obituary

Jean Kearney Passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11:15 a.m. at Villa Sierra, Mountain View, CA, one month shy of her 97th birthday. A third generation San Franciscan, Jean was born on June 9, 1915 to Tor and May L. Carlen and lived most of her years in that city. On September 25, 1937, she married James Stanley Kearney, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1970. She is survived by their three children; Barbara (Kerry) Koller, Brian (Anne) Kearney, and Michael (Diane) Kearney, six grandchildren: Katherine (John) Brophy, Stephen (Elizabeth) Koller, Jack (Julie) Koller, Elizabeth (Russell) Adams, Peter (Clare) Koller and Jennifer (Lance) Kreutzinger, 10 great-grandchildren: Thomas, Mary, Sarah, Margaret, Bridget and Michael Brophy, Ruth, Katelyn, and Noah Adams, Caroline Koller, Caleb Kreutzinger, and one on the way. Jean loved her family, faith, good scotch, Camp Mather, camping and walking beaches with her husband, Stanley. She played many sports during her life, and was an excellent and risk-taking cook. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, class of '36, she never gave up on CAL football, faithfully listening to the games every fall on the kitchen radio. Go Bears! Jean had a gift for leadership. She was smart, efficient, loyal and reliable. She was President of the Student Body at St. Brigid High School, President of the Mothers' Club of Holy Name School, President of The San Francisco Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women, a delegate to the National BVM Convention, and appointed head of the San Francisco County March of Dimes Drive. For 25 years, she worked as bookkeeper at Sacred Heart High School, and after retirement, was active in Catholic Social Service of Marin County. She was loved by many who will miss her wisdom, hope, wit, intelligence and everlasting generosity. Her family would especially like to thank all those at Villa Siena, whose faithful and loving care enabled Jean to live with a grateful heart, humor, and a song ever ready on her lips. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at Villa Siena, Mountain View, CA on Tuesday, May 22 at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. On Wednesday, May 23, a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway San Francisco, CA. at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Villa Sierra Foundation, 1855 Miramonte Ave., Mountain View, CA 94040 or to your favorite charity.
