Theodore Harris Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Harris

March 30, 1924 - February 20, 2016

Passed away in Belvedere at his home in the loving care of family. A second generation San Franciscan, Ted and his brother were born March 30, 1924,within five minutes of one another, with Ted being the older brother. Ted grew up in San Francisco during a magical time. He and his three brothers watched the Golden Gate Bridge come to life and he spent most of his early life in San Francisco. The Harris Twins were tall, swarthy and handsome and had the world on a string. Ted moved to Marin County in the early '60's, and lived happily in Belvedere for the rest of his life.

Ted and his brother, Philip, entered active service in July of 1943, leaving the University of San Francisco to begin active duty in the South Pacific Theatre of War, primarily in New Guinea. The brothers served honorably and returned home to San Francisco in 1946.

After the war, Ted became a successful business man, following in his father's footsteps in the furniture business. He was employed by the Lane Furniture Company for many years and had his own furniture showrooms at both the San Francisco Furniture Mart and the 101 Henry Adams Design Center. He was also an avid tennis player and active participant and Past President of the Belvedere Tennis Club. He loved both opera and the music of the Great American Song Book.

Ted was married to Helene Smith, the mother of his three daughters and to Wini Smith, who died in 2004. Ted is survived by his wife, Ada Beth, and his beloved Goldendoodle, Marvin. He is also survived by his identical twin, Philip Harris and his wife, Rachel. He also leaves behind three daughters and their husbands: Patty and Jimmy Greenwood, Kate and Ron Murray and Nancy and Steve Bradley, and four stepchildren: Shelley Casey, Patricia Goldfine, Wendy Smith and Steven Smith. Also leaving behind a dear son in law, Rich Casey. Ted also was Grandfather to ten and Great Grandfather of three and uncle to many. He will be remembered as a kind, elegant, gentle, honest man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was memorable in every way and will be sorely missed.

A private celebration of life was held. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Canine Companions for Independence or an animal charity of your choice.
