Dorothy Hermann

Dorothy Jean Hermann Of San Mateo, 90, passed away peacefully on January 22nd 2013. Mrs. Hermann was the widow of the late Eric Hermann of San Francisco; the daughter of Peter M. and Ella Burns, both of San Francisco; and the sister of the late Robert J. Burns of Belmont. She was born October 20, 1922.
She grew up on San Francisco's Potrero Hill and lived almost all her life in that city, attending St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School and graduating from Presentation High School, subsequently working in various civilian administrative positions for the 12th U.S. Army, then headquartered at the Presidio. She was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since World War II. In her later years, she moved to San Mateo to be closer to family.
Music was a major focus of her non-working life, and among Dorothy's favorite activities was her long time participation in a musical group of friends which toured hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities all over Northern California, bringing entertainment and good cheer to the less fortunate. She was also active with the San Francisco Chapter of The Sweet Adelines barbershop harmony chorus.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Michelucci of Petaluma; a niece, Kathleen Weatherwax, of Burlingame; and a nephew, Robert M. Burns, of Jefferson, Oregon.
Interment will be Friday, February 8, 10:00 a.m., the chapel at Olivet Memorial Park, Colma, California.
