I am sorry that it has taken this long to learn of Don's death. Don and I first meet while working at C&L in Seattle. We became close friends as the years past. He will always have a very special place in my heart. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Dietra, Brandon, Paula, Svitlana and family.

Though I did not know Don well (we would run the same route, work out at the same gym and enjoy the same beach) I always looked forward to seeing Alex and Don horsing around at the beach. Don always had a big smile and warm greeting. I think that was his way. He made people feel better. Svitlana and Alex - my heart goes out to you. Though sad you have left us the world is a little bit better because of you Don. Kerry Gleeson

Alexander there are so many wonderful things you should remember about your mother and father when you were 4. It was obvious they both loved YOU very much.
Your father always showed up to swimming with a smile as big as Yours. He would always prompt you to say good morning, good afternoon or Hello! You almost always had something to show me that was fun or cool! ( A toy etc!). “Look what I've got” you would say!
Your father never failed to make friends with the other parents on the pool deck. He would find something nice to say about the other swimmers and that was not always easy to do. (some did not swim so well or follow directions as easily as you!)
Your dad never left Pool School without making sure that he complimented and thanked everyone. He was always making a joke about something. He seldom talked about himself unless it had to do with him going for a run. He asked others questions to get them talking, and he listened to what they had to say.
He very clearly loved you very much Alexander. Your last 2 swim classes before he passed away were Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30. He came to both classes! He loved to watch you swim and improve. He always allowed me to teach. He was not a parent who coached you from the sidelines! You were always a hard worker but had lots of fun too! Just like your dad!
One time your dad wrote an entire note thanking me for your swimming class backwards! It was very funny!
Your father had a contagious joy for life which he naturally shared when he entered a room. He had a quick wit and sense of humor anyone could appreciate. He was kind and generous with words of praise, a joke and a smile.
I hope this helps you to remember your father in years to come Alexander. I am sure you will be an amazing son, man and husband, just like your father.
Most Fondly,
Your swimming teacher in Boca Raton, Florida.

Our heart goes out to the family Mrs. Markey, Brandon ( and fiancee- my god niece Brittani) Paula and Our Soror Dietra and Markey, Rugon, Sims . My fondest memories of Don was playing with him as a partner who really knew how to talk up a good game of BIDWHIST while the kids were engaging in their Jack and Jill picnic or activities or other related gatherings. Don lived life to the fullest and perhaps we should all "Take away some of his ZEST and PASSION for LIVING out LOUD! So when that day finally comes along in our lives we too will have lived without regret! ..Aunt Winona and The John Hauge families.

They Markeys' were our family friends in Redmond. Not only brother, Jon, and I went to daycare with Brandon and Paula, but I used to babysit Paula and Jon played with Brandon on multiple sports teams.

Donnie was a loud, funny guy. I haven't seen him in years, but weeks later I am still mourning his passing. As my brother's coach pushed for excellence and hard work, but always in a loving fun way.

I remember one time he was coaching and my brother was the point guard taking the ball out. Donnie pantsed him in the middle of the game. I don't remember who was more surprised, Jon, my parents, the other team or the ref!

I remember another time after a hot baseball tournament heading to the hotel pool. My parents told us to be careful in the pool area, but Donnie was doing flips into the pool!

Great memories for a great friend. And great father. To Brandon and Paula we send love.

We had just recently befriended Don, Svitlana, and Alex, but right away we could tell what a good person and gentleman he was. It was a true pleasure being around Don, sharing his jokes and learning a thing or two as well. He had a very positive perspective on life. Our deepest condolences to Svitlana, Alex, and the rest of Don's family.
