Margaret George Obituary

Margaret George

Born on October 27, 1917 in Persia, which is now a part of Iran. Peacefully passed away with her cousin and best friend Sam George by her side on July 11, 2018, at the age of 100. Beloved aunt of Kathleen George McCarty, Philip George and Gilbert Morgan; many other relatives.
Her family, father Isaac, mother Nabat, sister Mary and brother Jesse, arrived in California in 1920 and resided in Turlock where her younger brother Robert was born. When her father became ill and passed away at the much too young age of 32, the family moved to San Francisco. Margaret went on to attend Girls High School, and after graduation, she went on to work at J.C. Penney and soon became their buyer of women's dresses. While employed at J.C.Penney she had the opportunity to meet some very prominent people which led to her being asked to host meetings and dinners for the U.N. In 1950 she felt like she needed a change and enrolled in Hill Business College; after her tenure there she got a job at Macy's in their credit department and soon became in charge of all their credit departments from Sacramento to Carmel. When opening the Hillsdale Macy's she became credit manager and moved to San Mateo, California. When her mother became ill, she left Macy's and moved back to San Francisco to take care of her for eleven years. When her mother passed away, Margaret, once again, went back to work for First Nationwide Bank in their loan department until her retirement. She was very involved with her church, some charities and political parties. She received many awards and medals and was invited many times to attend dinners at the White House. She enjoyed the opera and light operas; and one of her favorite past times was playing tennis. Margaret spent her last five years at Sagebrook assisted living; we thank the staff and caregivers for the good care that she received there.
Services will be held on Friday, July 20th at 11:30 a.m. at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. Interment Olivet Cemetery, Colma.

Aunt Margaret came out of the fog for a brief moment in 2016 and healed the past in a single sentence. I'll never forget that moment with her.

Dear Cousin Sam,

Dad and I are so glad we were able to see Aunt Margaret before she passed. You have been extraordinarily devoted to her well-being for so many years. We now pray for your own good health and peace of mind.

Jim and I are away and will miss Aunt Margaret's funeral but we are thinking of her and you and sending love.
