Nancy Keane Obituary

Nancy Keane

July 9, 1936 – June 12, 2018

Nancy Mifflin Keane passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Nancy grew up in Noe Valley, the eighth of nine sisters. She graduated from Mission HS and attended SFSU with her best friend and baby sister, Laurie. Nancy met the love of her life, Jack Keane on a trip to Russian River and were married in 1957. Nancy stayed home to raise their girls, while Jack tended their bar the 3300 Club. Nancy was an active parent at the girls' school, St. John's, where she coordinated fundraisers, drove sports teams around the City and made lifelong friends. She returned to the work force in the 70s and had a very successful career at Wells Fargo. When Jack passed away suddenly in 1990, Nancy began running the bar and was more determined than ever to make the bar her own. She started leading monthly poetry readings and hosted legendary St. Patrick's Day parties. Nancy was a gifted poet, writer and artist. She published several poetry books.

Nancy loved her family and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them, whether at the annual Mifflin Family Christmas Party, traveling to Europe with her sister Joyce, or just visiting with her nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Anytime the Mifflin sisters got together we were guaranteed laughter, some fireworks and lots of love. She loved sharing stories and passing on family history. She may have taken poetic license with the stories, but that made them even more special.

Those of us that were able to listen to her stories, read her poetry, view her art, and feel her kind, warm spirit as she entered a room, are the lucky ones. Knowing Nancy has changed all of our lives for the better.

Survived by daughters Theresa Keane and Christine Keane (Bob Basso), grandchildren Shukry and Amanda Lama, Kaylee Basso, Elizabeth and Paul Halteh, and Tammy Basso, sisters Patricia Carso, Virginia Smith, Geri Digiorno and Laurie Harper along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends and beloved companion Charlie.

Friends may visit Monday, June 18, 2018 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, CA where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 19th at 10:30am at St. Paul Church, 221 Valley St., San Francisco. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. My condolences to Christine, Theresa and the rest of the family. It was evident that Nancy was very proud of all of you and loved you very much. She would share nice stories about everybody ....and although I rarely had an opportunity to see her, it was always a treat to see Nancy, because she was so much fun and had a great memory! She would start up our conversation as if we had just seen each other the other day, which made me feel so special. Nancy's kindness and sense of humor will be greatly missed. Please take care - Alysa (Terri's kid)

Not only was Nancy about the sweetest woman I've ever known, but she was a true Renaissance woman.
I'll always appreciate her art and poetry. She was, and still is a very inspiring figure in my life today. I'll miss her ready laugh.

Thinking of you Nancy and remembering the good times at the 3300. It was our second home, out collective family, a place where everyone did, indeed, know your name. There are and will be other bars, but nothing can never replace the 33. Sending love and condolences to your loved ones.
