Margaret Fung Obituary

Peggy Knochenhauer Fung

July 19, 1952 - August 23, 2018

Margaret "Peggy" Knochenhauer Fung, age 66, passed away Aug 23 after a long struggle with cancer. She was home in Foster City surrounded by her family.
Born to James and Martha Knochenhauer in Columbus, Ohio, at age five the family moved to San Mateo. Peggy graduated from Hillsdale High School, Chico State, and Notre Dame de Namur University. She married the love of her life Allan Fung in 1974. Peggy taught in the San Mateo/Foster City School District for more than 25 years. Returning to the classroom was one of the best decisions of her life. As a tremendous athlete, she swam for the Marlins and San Mateo Masters for the last three decades. She also played for the World Champion Peninsula Water Polo team where she made life-long friends. She loved visiting her cabin in Lake Tahoe — skiing in the winter, swimming and kayaking in the summer.
Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 44 years, Allan, and their children Joey Fung (Chloe), Katie Fung (Michael), and Scott Fung (Mary). She will also be fondly remembered by her grandson Nolan, mother Martha Knochenhauer, seven siblings and several family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Foster City Rec Center on Sep. 28 at 3:30. For the compete obituary, please search for Margaret Fung at www.legacy.com.

The dignity with which Peggy endured her illness was something to behold. She rarely complained, and those complaints were mostly about why she wasn't swimming faster. Peggy was an inspiration to many of us, and we will miss her dearly.
