Brian James Kavanagh

December 3, 1927 - August 9, 2018

Was called to his eternal life on August 9, 2018 at the age of 90. Brian was the beloved husband of Mary (Black) Kavanagh, loving father of Brian B. (Lisa Allen), Gregory, and Susan (Dieter Ramaekers). He was the doting Poppy to his grandchildren Katherine, Megan, Anne and Grace Kavanagh, and Esme and Ella Ramaekers. Brian was preceded in death by his children Luke and Alice and his sisters, Patricia Mooser and Francesca Pampanin as well as his brother Jack Kavanagh. Brian leaves behind many fond memories for his treasured nieces and nephews as well as the many old friends who will will always remember his engaging wit and hearty laugh.
Brian was a lifelong San Franciscan having attended Sacred Heart High school and graduated from University of San Francisco in 1953. Brian was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was also a devoted member of Star of the Sea parish for 50+ years. Brian was an avid athlete who began running in the early Bay to Breakers races in the 1960s when there were only a couple of hundred entrants and costumes were a rare sight. Brian also maintained his fitness playing competitive matches on the handball courts at the San Francisco Elks Lodge #3. Brian spent his professional life as a successful realtor through his work at Mooser & Kavanagh Realty in its office on Clement Street.
Visitation will begin Wednesday, Aug 15 at 5:30 PM with a Rosary to follow at 7 PM at McAvoy O'Hara Co Evergreen Mortuary,10th Ave at Geary Blvd., San Francisco, A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 AM at Star of the Sea Church, Geary Blvd at 8th Ave, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, a Mass card would be appreciated or donations to United for Life Northern California or Star of the Sea Church.
