Camille Chhabria Obituary

Camille Bois Chhabria

September 11, 1937 - May 22, 2016

Camille Bois Chhabria passed away peacefully, without pain and with her family, at her home in Tiburon, CA. She had been in an extended battle with ovarian cancer. She died once she could no longer live the way she had – fun, happy and devoted to those around her.

Born in Quebec, Canada, Camille moved to San Francisco in 1965 (temporarily, she thought). But there she met Joe, the love of her life. He turned on the charm and they were married in 1967. They moved to Mill Valley where she began the most important and rewarding career of her life as mother to Mark and Vince Chhabria. Later, she lived to be blessed with her beloved daughter in law, Amy Krause, and three grandchildren: Max, Leo and Brooke. All live in Marin County and were able to spend lots of time with her in recent years. Since 1988, Camille and Joe have enjoyed life in Tiburon, and were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next year.

While raising her children, Camille did not limit her focus to her family. She spent time helping people less fortunate - for example, taking care of kids at San Quentin while their parents visited loved ones in the prison.

Later on Camille had a long career as a travel agent, earning the respect of her clients as well as the travel community in Marin. She enjoyed traveling all over the world with Joe, and later with her kids and grandkids. She made many trips to Canada and India to visit family.

Camille was a nature lover and enjoyed hiking over our spectacular trails with her dear hiking group. She was a patron of the arts and enjoyed symphony, ballet, jazz and museums. Camille cherished her lifetime friendships as well as new ones. Above all she loved life, and always appreciated her good fortune over the years, never taking it for granted.

Of the many things her family will miss about her, some of the biggest are her grace and elegance, her disinterest in status or material things, her loyalty to her friends and family, her unrelenting-but-fruitless attempt to teach her grandchildren manners, and her unwavering ability to think about how others are feeling before doing or saying something.

There will be a private (family) scattering of ashes at Fernwood, Portuguese Trail. The family will host a secular commemorative service celebrating her life at Community Congregational Church in Tiburon on Saturday, June 11 at 3 pm. All friends and family are welcome.

Judge,
You probably won't remember me, but I was with Court Security at the Federal Building when you were appointed to the bench. I met your mom at your swearing-in ceremony in 2014. I am so sorry for your loss. Take care and stay strong.
