Charlene Clemens, long time resident and lover of the city of San Francisco, died July 19, 2018, in Daly City. Charlene was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from San Francisco State University with a Masters in Public Administration in 1989.
Charlene was an ardent advocate for teen parent services in San Francisco and a dedicated developer of policies and initiatives that promoted and strengthened young families. She was very proud of the young parents she supported and promoted through her work in TAPP-Teenage Pregnancy and Parenting Program (Director 1991-2010,) and San Francisco Family Support Network.
Survivors include brother William Black, Fairbanks, Alaska, sister Cynthia Black Nesti (Riccardo,) Florence, Italy, sister Sandra Black (Peter Manley, ) Stoughton, Wisconsin, and partner John Griffin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who adored her crazy humor and her unending patience at reading stories and playing games. She was preceded in death by husband Robert Clemens.
A memorial service was held October 11 in San Francisco, and a family and friends celebration of life will be held in January, location to be determined. All who appreciated Charlene's immense and caring professional and personal contributions will be welcome.
Memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood or to Hilltop High School, SFUSD.
