Dennis O'Donnell Obituary
Dennis Michael O'Donnell

Sept. 9, 1927 - Sept. 8, 2018

Born in McKee Barracks, Irish Republic Army Headquarters, Dublin Ireland to Thomas and Bridget O'Donnell. Dennis is survived by his loving, devoted and caring wife, Marietta (Morales) of 23 years who he met in San Francisco. He was preceded in death by his first wife (with whom he enjoyed ten beautiful children), his oldest daughter, Denise Patricia, and his youngest son Glen Christopher. His children, their loving spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss his love and guidance.

Dennis learned his street smarts while being raised in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, NY. He served proudly and honorably in the US Marine Corps during WWII and the Cold War. Dennis enjoyed a successful, exciting and rewarding 50-year career in law enforcement serving on local, city, state and federal levels. He retired in New York in 1972 as a Detective Lieutenant with a passion for working the street and investigating crime scenes. He received the Police Officer of the Year award 3 times and was nominated for Parade Officer of the Year. He lectured at New York University, the New York Police Academy, the State University of New York and he designed mobile forensic evidence collection vehicles. Dennis was a labor activist and served 14 years as Union Trustee and Shop Steward with the American Federation of Government Employees while with the US Dept. of Treasury. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post #334, Floral Park, New York, and past President (16 years) of the California Federal Lodge #21, Fraternal Order of Police.

Many of his closest friends have said "Dennis should be considered an endangered species."
