Ernestine "Tina" C. Townsend

Ernestine "Tina" C. Townsend - A longtime resident of San Francisco as well as Pacifica, CA and most recently Sparks, NV. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 5, 2018 in Sparks. She was just shy of her 90th birthday. Tina was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend to many. She was affectionately called "grandma" by many that knew her.
She loved playing piano, reading, keeping up with family and friends on Face Book, and was a longtime devoted fan of the San Francisco Giants, 49ers and Warriors.
Born August 31, 1928 in Los Angeles to Gil & Carlota Castro (deceased) (natives of Mexico). She is preceded in death by her brothers Felix and Gil Castro; sisters Beatrice Solis and Connie Galaviz; and her loving husband, George Townsend Sr.
She is survived by her children: Larry, George Jr., Stephen Townsend &Stephanie Dong – loving spouses of her children: Connie, Mary, Fran, and Daniel. Grandchildren: Larry Jr., Lucas (Debbie), Richie (Danielle), James (Deidre), Amy (Joe Compani), Janet, Jordan (Sophie), Chris, Anthony, Sundy (Dave Rothery) Desiree (Rob Gilcrest), and Preceded in death by: Shaun (DeWilde), Troy & Gavin Townsend. Tina also had 13 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews all who loved their Aunt Tina. She also loved her long time best friends Alice Gomez, Patricia DeNarde, and Jeannette Saccheri.
A graduate of Mission High School in San Francisco, and also attended City College of SF. She was an Admin Assistant to the SF Veterans Administration, as well Soule Steele Co., before forming her own construction company with her husband George. She received an award from the Women in Construction for Outstanding Service to the Construction industry. Once she retired she worked as a teacher's aide at Oceana High School in Pacifica, where she received an award for her Dedicated Service.
Visitation will begin at 6pm on Wed., August 15th with a Rosary at 7pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, CA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thu. August 16th at 10 am – St. Peter's Catholic Church, 700 Oddstad Blvd., Pacifica, CA. The service continues at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1500 Mission Road, Colma, CA.
