Gwynn Simon Obituary
Gwynn Lee Simon

April 17, 1952 - May 26, 2018

Gwynn Lee Simon – our beautiful mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend – departed this world on Saturday, May 26, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family and faithful golden retriever Monty, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, in the comfort of her East Bay home.

Born and raised in Los Angeles on April 17, 1952, Gwynn was a remarkable human being — kind, curious, devoted, generous, principled, accomplished, and extremely humane. Throughout her 31 year practice of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Kaiser Oakland and Richmond, she cared for those from all walks of life – from immigrants that didn't speak a word of English, to the homeless, and even inmates at the San Francisco County Jail. She treated them all equally with extraordinary determination and purpose.

On facing her own mortality, Gwynn wrote to a friend, "I feel that I am traveling or waddling back in time to become a baby animal again- I can splash with Monty, the pony, and the others, including little ducklings and my baby children. We are all swimming around fortunate to be bumping into each other. I feel very grateful. Love you all"

Gwynn's untimely death followed a diagnosis of advanced uterine cancer two years ago. We will miss our dear "Gwynnie" terribly. Her radiant smile and love of life touched everyone she encountered. Her beautiful legacy of lovingkindness will live on in those whose lives she blessed.

Gwynn Simon is survived by two stellar sons Noah and Aaron Belkin; devoted brother Harlan Simon; cherished sisters-in-law, Mary Cain-Simon and Robin Belkin; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Donations offered in Gwynn's memory can be made to Jewish Family & Community Services East Bay. https://jfcs-eastbay.org/donate-now/
