Jean Randall

1927 - 2018

Jean Randall, who worked as a librarian at the San Francisco Chronicle in the early 1950s, and nearly 40 years as a process server in Marin County, died Oct. 25th at her home in Novato, at age 91.

Ms. Randall was born in Ft. Riley, Kansas in 1927, the daughter of Margaret Beatty and Russell Randall, and grew up on air bases in Ohio, Texas, and Panama. She moved to San Francisco in 1949 and took a job at the Chronicle. Her marriage to Charles F. Schultz, an editor, ended in divorce.

Ms. Randall moved to Novato in 1978 and started her business, Jean Randall Process Service, and spent decades tracking down and delivering bad news to often elusive individuals.

Ms. Randall's passions included her work, her artwork, atrocious puns, quirky historical facts, detective fiction, finding typos, Scrabble, and Molly, her cat.

Ms. Randall is survived by four children, Stacie Schultz of Gastonia, N.C., Michael Schultz of Corte Madera, Ca., Ellen Schultz of New York, and Sara Schultz of Corte Madera; a brother, Dr. Russell E. Randall Jr., of Weems, Va., and four grandchildren. Her daughter, Carrie Jean Bazemore, of Kelford, N.C., pre-deceased her.

A memorial will be held Saturday, November 10, from 1:00 to 3:00 at Hamilton Field History Museum in Novato. Bring a bad pun.
