Josephine Palmieri Obituary
Josephine Lombardi Palmieri

Josephine Lombardi Palmieri died peacefully on November 30, 2018, in Sonoma, California, at the age of 100.
Known as "Noni" to her family, she is survived by her daughters Patti Celli (Lew) and Judi Rauh (Jim), her beloved grandchildren, Joelle Gallagher (Bill Chadwick), Michael Gallagher (Lindi), Michelle Rauh Carver (Jason), Melissa Foster (Brad), Christiane Fife (Tucker) and James Rauh (Karla Duenas), and her adoring great-grandchildren, Katie, Kellen, Jack, Emma, Chloe, Uma, Pilara, Mia and Layna, and numerous extended family and friends. She has now joined her mother, Josephine, sister Nancy, father Rosario, husband and true love, Vince, and many dear friends and family members.
Noni was born on March 12, 1918 in San Francisco, California, to Rosario and Josephine Lombardi, and grew up in North Beach. She attended Galileo High School, married Vince, and together they built a successful business, Sun Valley Dairy. Eventually, they moved to their weekend home in Sonoma, California. They were active in St. Francis Solano Church, Sonoma, St. Elizabeth's, San Francisco, and the Italian Catholic Federation. Noni was the quintessential grandmother, extending her love of family beyond her own, to embrace many dear friends as her "kids." A "baby whisperer" she could calm any infant with her sweet lullabies. Everyone enjoyed family dinners at Noni and Pop's, especially Noni's hearty Italian dishes. She loved to sing and dance with Pop and the grandchildren and kept us endlessly entertained with her nostalgic stories of growing up in North Beach. She was feisty and clever to the end, never relinquishing her role as the matriarch of our family. A truly resilient woman, Noni's life force made a lasting impression upon all who knew her. Her deep and abiding love strengthened us as individuals and as a family.
A memorial mass will be held in the new year at St. Francis Solano in Sonoma, details to follow. If you would like to honor her memory, please consider having a mass said in her name, or donate to . The family would like to thank the special caregivers at Brookdale Sonoma, especially Norma, Jocelyn, and Roberta, as well as Continuum Hospice Care.
