Josephine Ratto Obituary
Josephine Clara Restani Ratto

February 12, 1923 - January 6, 2019

It happened on Sunday, January 6, 2019, shortly after receiving communion. Josephine passed away quickly and peacefully, with Ou, her caregiver, by her side. She takes with her all of our history, which she often shared, and kept securely in her mind.
Born February 12, 1923, Josephine was nearing her 96th birthday. She was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Joseph and Katie Restani. She was sharp as a tack and lived a long, prosperous and happy life. Josephine could tell you the address of the house she and her sister, Vera, grew up in on Geneva Avenue in San Francisco. Her family was in the nursery business, and Josephine worked in the office. It was here where Josephine met her husband, Albert Ratto. Josephine and Albert married on July 10, 1948. Shortly thereafter, their daughter Joan was born, and three years later, they welcomed their son John into the world. Josephine and Albert moved to San Mateo in 1954 and called it home. Josephine and her husband spent many great years traveling the world and exploring new frontiers, but when she was home, you would often find her in the kitchen preparing all of our favorite Italian dishes. Often, when Josephine wasn't in the kitchen, she was enjoying one of her many favorite sports teams. Without a doubt, the San Francisco Giants were here absolute favorite, and games were rarely missed, even if she was on vacation.
Family and friends were important to Josephine. She was known as Jo, Lala Jo, The Lady, Mom and Grandma. Josephine embraced each relationship with a special kind of unconditional love. Josephine is survived by her daughter Joan Tezak (husband, Bill) and son John Ratto (wife, Helen), and two grandchildren, Sage Tezak (husband, Dave Minard) and Jeff Ratto (wife, Kim). Josephine is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Pauline, Arlene, Ron and Rick Lavezzo.
Family and friends are invited to the Rosary Service on January 14, 2019 at 7:00pm at Crosby-N. Gray & Co. Funeral Home located at 2 Park Road, Burlingame, CA. Funeral Mass will be held on January 15, 2019 at 10:00am at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church located at the corner of Alameda de las Pulgas and Crystal Springs Blvd., San Mateo, CA. Afterwards, the internment will be at Skylawn Memorial Park located at Hwy 92 at Skyline Blvd, San Mateo, CA
