Marion Morrison Obituary
Marion Lois Morrison

April 21, 1938 - April 15, 2018

Marion Lois Morrison passed away peacefully on April 15, 2018 at the Heritage on the Marina, San Francisco, California. She and her twin sister were born on April 21, 1938 in Los Angeles, California to parents Marion Eaton Morrison and George Lyon Morrison (deceased). Marion is survived by her sister Georgia Morrison Bryant and her brother-in-law W. Alton Bryant of New Orleans, Louisiana, cousins, friends and her Peace Corp friends from Ghana 1. Marion's father worked for the Southern Pacific RR and her early years were spent living in Southern California, Ogden, Utah, and Dunsmuir, California, before settling in the Sunset District of San Francisco in 1945. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School (1956) and went on to graduate in 1960 from Rice University in Houston, Texas (her parents Alma Mater). In 1961 Marion joined the Peace Corps and became part of the first group known as Ghana 1 to go overseas. Meeting with John F. Kennedy, the group was known as "his experiment" to provide educational help in Ghana. In 1963 after teaching for two years in Ghana she returned to Washington, D. C. and worked for the Peace Corps. After her father's death Marion accompanied her mother on a two-year trip around the World. Once back in the States she went to work for the Coro Foundation and worked in the political world of Los Angeles. In the 1980's she returned to San Francisco to care for her mother and began a career in the banking industry until her retirement in 2000. Marion will be fondly remembered and missed by her family and many friends from Lincoln, Rice, the Peace Corps and her coworkers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. A Memorial Service will be held in the Noble Chapel at Cypress Lawn Funeral Home, 1383 El Camino Real, Colma, California on June 21, 2018 at 1 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated to the Marion Eaton Morrison, Class of 1922 Scholarship (and/or) the George Lyon Morrison Class of 1923 Scholarship at Rice University. Gifts may be sent to Rice University, Office of Development MS-81, P. O. Box 1892, Houston, Texas 77251-1892, or made online at giving.rice.eduldonate.
