Ora Louise Hogan, nee Baisley

Died July 2, 2018 in San Carlos, CA. Born November 30, 1934 in Washington, D.C. to Col. Herbert K. and Ora Baisley. As a child, Ora lived abroad in Ecuador and the Philippines. She later attended UC-Berkeley for undergraduate studies and earned her Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Ora was a civilian contractor for the United States Navy and was a civil servant for the state of California, where she worked for the Public Utilities Commission and San Francisco State University as a mainframe programmer. She also worked for Wells Fargo and Visa until her retirement. Ora enjoyed deploying her accordion to enlighten her children on the Polka music form, singing to Latin music while cooking, and watching Star Trek from her rocking chair. She was a master of the sewing machine and made unique clothes for her children and friends. Ora was also an accomplished amateur carpenter and liked to do her own home improvements. She was also a prolific photographer. She is survived by her children Louis Hogan, Andrew Hogan, and Hannah Hogan and grandchildren Dae Hogan, Robin Hogan, Cristophi Hogan, Reyna Hogan, Mikah Johnson, and Samuel Strelkoff, and great-grandchildren Aliera Hogan-Cisneros and Aria Hogan-Cisneros. Marriages to George Hersh and Michael Hogan ended in divorce.


Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002. An informal reception will follow. The family requests donations to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in lieu of flowers.
