Preben Jurvig Obituary

Preben Emanuel Jurvig Age 94, Born December 1, 1915 Denmark, Died April 23, 2010 San Rafael, CA. Preben passed away peacefully surrounded by cherished Villa Marin caregivers and family. He is survived by his wife Clare Salles Jurvig, his grandchildren, Joy and Christopher Jurvig, his niece Carol Tait and husband Bill. His son, John, predeceased him. He is also survived by Thale and Steve MacRostie, Julie and Walter Haas and their families including Simone & Scott Zumsteg, Charlotte and Joshua Prime, Walter Haas III, Michaela and Kendall MacRostie and 2 great grandchildren, Andy and Olivia. Although Preben began his life in Denmark, an adventure for his family began at the age of 3. He traveled by ship with his mother and brother and landed on Ellis Island in New York. From there the 3 of them boarded a train and headed west to another faraway place called San Francisco. The family joined his father who had arrived there earlier. He graduated from Galileo High School and went on to the University of California. He honorably served his country for 5 years during World War II. He was a Navy pilot stationed in South America. He became an orthodontist with a 25 year practice in San Rafael, CA. After his retirement he and his wife, Clare, spent many happy years traveling all over the world. One of his passions was sailing on the San Francisco Bay. He joined the San Francisco Yacht Club in 1939. He took pride in maintaining his sailboat and taking friends out to enjoy our beautiful San Francisco Bay. At his request, there will be no service. Donations in his name can be made to The Belvedere Cove Foundation Youth Program, PO Box 786, Belvedere, CA 94920.
