Robert Wilkinson Obituary
Robert John Wilkinson

November 23, 1936 - July 22, 2018

Bob was born in San Francisco but lived in Burlingame all his life. From 1945 until his death he lived in the house his parents built. He started work at Pacific Bell/AT&T in 1956 and retired in 1996 working his way through many job titles in the company and finally becoming a consultant on computers in communication.
He retired as early as possible to be able to pursue his varied interests and hobbies, among them volunteering at the Humane Society, and joining the San Francisco Model Yacht Club, the Bay Area Garden RR Society, Diablo Pacific Short Lines RR Club and especially Swanton Pacific RR. He was a member for many years of both the Native Sons and the Elks Club.
Bob had a yellow 1946 Jeep he loved and which he enjoyed taking camping and 4-wheeling. He was proud of being able to elevate a camping trip to new heights with special gear he devised and excellent food he prepared. He made his 30 annual trips to Housekeeping Camp in Yosemite more fun for family and friends because of his presence and skills.
He endured a long, slow decline in health with grace and patience. He stayed interested in people and was a joy to be with even as his daily struggles increased. His world became smaller but his generosity and enthusiasm never diminished. He was a wonderful loving husband and father, and a friend to cherish. His wit, his kindness and his generosity will be missed by all who knew him.
He died peacefully with his wife Catherine (Collins) and his son John beside him.
A memorial mass will be celebrated for Bob at Mercy Center, 2300 Adeline Dr. in Burlingame at 11:00 on Thursday the 16th of August with reception to follow.
