Samuel Joseph McGilbery

Samuel Joseph McGilbery was received in God's grace on August 26, 2018 with loving family by his side. Born in Jackson Mississippi on March 8, 1940 to the union of Eddie and Carrie Mae McGilbery. At the age of 4, his family moved to San Francisco, California.

Samuel received his education from Bessie Carmichael Elementary School, Everett Middle School, and Polytechnic High School. As a high schooler, he excelled in sports, particularly football, in which he was given All City Honors.

He served our Country as a US Marine and later,
upond his return home, was hired with the City and County of San Francisco with the Department of Public Works and the Longshoreman's, Local 10. This journey continued for 20+ years.

He is survived by his wife Thelma; former wife Patise Mills; Children Wanetta Davis (Calvin); Sherrell McGilbery; Dorothy McGilbery Kelley (John); Rosland Butler (Will); Rene Tennison (Bruce); Sumatra McGilbery (Dimitri); Michael Catlett. Grandchildren; Monique Howard (Carl); Calvin L. Davis (Daissy); Deshawn McGilbery; Tiara Davis; Terrell Davis; Damika Kelley; John McDonald; Dontae Catlett; Breanna Catlett; Daja Munson; D'ajah Killingsworth. Great grandchildren DaeVion McGehee; Deshawn McGilbery; Rayvontae Parker; Camron Lee; Miles Lee; and Harmoni Lucas. And countless nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends are invited for visitation from 3-7pm on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Fouche's Hudson Funeral Home, 3665 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, Ca. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00am at Providence Baptist Church, 1601 McKinnon Avenue in San Francisco, Ca. Repass immediately following.
