Ebbe Schov Obituary

Ebbe Schov July 14, 1937 - September 8, 2008 Long time Mill Valley resident Ebbe Schov, 71, died after more than a decade-long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He will be very much missed by JoAnne, his wife of 41 years, as well as by his much loved son Paul of San Leandro and his wife Sara and in Denmark, his nephew Lennardt and niece Iben and their respective families. A former Royal Danish Marine, in 1960 Ebbe emigrated to America by ship from Copenhagen, Denmark, arriving in New York City. Two years later he moved West, to the San Francisco Bay Area. A qualified watchmaker-jeweler, Ebbe enjoyed his life, his family, and his fine jewelry and watch business, Conway Jewelers, in the Crocker Galleria in San Francisco's downtown Financial District. He was a member of The San Francisco Yacht Club, The Young Scandinavians Club, The Danish Club of San Francisco, the Mill Valley Golf Club and a founder member of the Mill Valley Soccer Club. Sports played a big part in Ebbe's life, as he avidly followed the 49ers and Giants each weekend. Summers he loved crewing and racing on Knarr sailboats on San Francisco Bay as well as in Denmark and Norway during International Regattas. Ebbe's sailed off to Valhalla now with lots of Gammeldansk to cheer and help him along the way. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ebbe's name to the Parkinsons Institute in Sunnyvale will be very much appreciated. Interment will be private.

Ebbe was my first Boss. He hired me right out of college and gave me a chance to shine. He and JoAnne were instrumental in giving me a foundation for a work ethic that would stand me in good stead for my life. Generous and trusting, I am blessed to have been friends with such a great man and his family for nearly thirty years. Happy Sailing Ebbe.

Ebby had one of the kindest hearts and the friendliest smiles I've known and his cheerful spirit brightened up so many of my days. He was my best source for finding gifts for friends and family, but he also helped me in celebrating my happiness with my children. Thank you to you Ebby and good-bye for now. Your kind and happy face is one that will stay in my memory always. To Joanne and Ebby's family, cherish your memories and know that my heart goes out to all of you for your loss. What a great gentleman you've had in your life. God bless you.

Ebbe was a wonderful man and a great jeweler. I'll always remember his cute little grin & I would stop by his store each & every time I was in SF. He always had a funny story to share too. I will treasure all of the pieces of jewelry that I have gotten from his store over so many years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Ebbe will be missed. He was a constant positive presence in the Crocker Galleria where he ran a lovely business with loyal clients, offering unique pieces of jewelry and expert repair services. He was patient, he was professional, he was a delight. I will miss him.

For thirty years Ebbe solved problems for me: how to mount a nugget, find an anniversary gift or keep an old and treasured watch running. Sometimes, though, I'd simply find an excuse to drop by and talk with him, always a delightful experience.

Ms. JoAnn & Family,

I am so sorry to hear about Ebbe. He was so nice, funny, and very smart......when I used to go over to the Crocker Galleria to the Conway Jewelry I would sit there and talk with Ebbe to pass some of his time. So nice. He is with my mom now to as she passed September 17. My thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to you and your family. May God help you get throught your time of grief and I know he will as JoAnn you did everything that you could for him.
May Ebbe rest in peace and he is out of his pain and suffering.

With All My Love,
Kathy

When I was a child and Ebbe called on the phone, he always said "this is Santa Claus". I will always think of him with a smile.
